Hungary’s accession to the European Union has brought about profound changes in purchasing electricity and natural gas within the public utilities system. The most important part of these changes was the transformation of the public utilities service chain.
Concerning both electric and natural gas energy the old, traditional service of energy supply has been divided into two parts. Thus, the consumer in the open market has become the subject of more than one contract. Now the owner of the supply network infrastructure performs transportation tasks and for their services one has to pay a grid access fee. On the other hand, energy is sold by energy trading firms, and its price is subject to an individual agreement made with the trading company.
In order to retain their competitiveness it is indispensable for companies to make use of the opportunities of a competitive market by taking due care and using a conscious energy purchasing strategy.
Those for whom purchasing in the open market is compulsory:
-
From January 2008 the liberalisation of the electric energy market affects all consumers with a 3X80 A connection capacity and from 2009 also those with a 3X50 A connection capacity.
-
Natural gas energy: from July 2010 it applies to consumers over a capacity of 20 m3/h.
