The liberalisation of the energy market means that consumers purchase energy in an open market from freely chosen electric and natural gas energy trading companies according to conditions individually agreed upon.
After the liberalisation of the market we call public utilities services universal services. The rules of the pricing policy and the maximums of margins are set by the minister responsible for energy and transportation according to the suggestions of the Hungarian Energy Office.
The current list of universal service providers can be found on the website of the Hungarian Energy Office.
Purchasing from the free market is available to every consumer and/or it is compulsory for everyone who is not eligible for universal service.
After the termination of valid contracts one can change trading companies freely.
